Athlone Chamber welcomes Ericsson job announcement Athlone Chamber welcomes Ericsson job announcements

Athlone Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the announcement by Ericsson that it plans to employ and additional 250 people at its Irish Research and Development Centre in Athlone to support the company's continuous innovation in the cloud-native production which orchestrates, automates and powers its global 5g portfolio.

Speaking, following the announcement, the Athlone Chamber President stated;
“Today's announcement by Ericsson will have a very positive impact on both the local and regional economy. This news is further evidence of the opportunities that the Athlone region affords FDI companies such as Ericsson as a place to do business and will serve as a positive example for future investment in the local economy. Ericsson's expansion is the product of many years of work by IDA, the Irish government and the recently established Technological University of the Shannon. Ericsson has led the way as a model for remote working from the commencement of the Covid pandemic and now evolving into a hybrid model that has set an example of efficiency and productivity in an environment that provide an optimum work life balance for workers".
The new skilled roles on offer include employment opportunities in the areas of software development, data science, architecture, cloud engineering and mobile communication engineering, will be available over the next three years and are supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.

One of Ireland’s largest software development employers, Ericsson has had a Research and Development presence in Athlone since 1979. The Athlone facility, which is the global R&D headquarters of Ericsson Digital Services OSS (Operations Support Systems), currently employs 1200 people developing its OSS and Cloud RAN (Radio Access Network) portfolio. Ericsson employs an additional 200 at its Dublin base.
