Heartlands Pride

Heartlands Pride Athlone is a community-led Pride organisation based in Athlone, now proudly expanding its presence into Monksland and the wider Midlands region. Established to celebrate and support the LGBT+ community and its allies, the group has become well known for its vibrant and inclusive Winter Pride Festivals held annually each November. These events have grown in popularity year after year, bringing together people from across the region for a celebration of diversity, creativity and community spirit.

Building on this success, Heartlands Pride Athlone is excited to launch its very first Summer Pride Festival this June, offering an even greater range of events, activities and opportunities for people to connect, celebrate and show support for the LGBT+ community in the Midlands. The festival aims to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all ages, while showcasing local talent, businesses and organisations that champion equality and inclusion.

In addition to its festival events, Heartlands Pride Athlone runs a regular social club designed to provide a safe, supportive and enjoyable space for LGBT+ individuals and allies to meet, socialise and build friendships. Thanks to funding support from the Department of Children, Disability and Equality, the group organises between one and two activities each month. These activities range from social gatherings and workshops to cultural outings and wellness-focused events, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging and connection within the community.

Heartlands Pride Athlone is committed to promoting visibility, acceptance and inclusivity throughout the Midlands, while creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together in a positive and supportive environment.
