BUSINESS WATCH SCHEME
What is Business Watch?
Business Watch is a proactive Crime Prevention Programme, thoughtfully crafted by An Garda Síochána. Rooted in the same principles that underpin Neighbourhood Watch initiatives, it brings together law enforcement and the local business community with a shared goal: the prevention and reduction of crime. The key distinction here is that Business Watch is tailored specifically to our vibrant business community.
This initiative empowers the business community to unite, taking an active role in safeguarding their own neighbourhood against criminal activities. Through heightened awareness, vigilant observation, and a commitment to action, Business Watch provides a robust framework.
How the Business Watch Scheme Works:
The Business Watch Scheme has a two-fold approach.
1. Crime Trend Insights:
Stay informed about recent crime trends that could impact your business. Receive updates through a text alert system, mirroring the principles of Neighbourhood Watch.
2. Collaboration with Gardaí:
Work in close collaboration with Athlone Chamber of
Commerce and the local Gardaí.
Participation is open to all local businesses at no cost. To join, simply complete the provided form and send it to the Crime Prevention Officer at westmeath.crimeprevention@garda.ie.
After submitting your form, Sergeant John McWalter will reach out to you to initiate your involvement in the Business Watch Scheme.
Athlone Chamber of Commerce proudly launched this initiative on March 27, 2023, in partnership with An Garda Síochána, and with the support of the Westmeath County Council. Together, we’re committed to a safer and more secure business community.
